The Putizza

The putizza or potizza is a typical dessert from Venezia Giulia and Slovenia dating back to the Middle Ages. Also known in the Karst area, between Gorizia and Trieste.

The dessert consists of a rolled pastry that contains a dried fruit-based filling.

Ingredients:

The dough: flour, sugar, butter, eggs, oil, honey, milk, yeast, salt and vanilla

The filling: raisins, chopped nuts (walnuts, toasted hazelnuts, almonds), pine nuts, egg white, apricot jam, chopped dark chocolate, rum and flavourings such as cinnamon, cloves, grated lemon and orange zest.
